SPD thanks all supporters for donating to the SPD Charity Show 2017
Close to 20 beneficiaries of SPD, an organisation that helps people with disabilities, performed alongside more than 30 popular local and foreign artistes in a show of inclusion to raise $4.13 million so far at the SPD Charity Show 2017 telecast ‘live’ over MediaCorp Channel 8 last night. The amount includes $58,000 that was collected at the show’s outdoor segment where shoppers at nex shopping mall made donations for a taste of cuisines prepared by Singapore’s celebrity chefs Eric Teo, Heman Tan, Pung Lu Tin and Charlie Tham. The amount raised exceeded the $3.8 million target that was set for the show.

People with moderate to severe disabilities or low functioning skills often depend heavily on their family members and caregivers for daily living activities. For family members and caregivers who need to go to work besides tending to the needs of their charges, playing such multiple roles can be stressful and taxing.

14 Secondary Two students of Hai Sing Catholic take turns to come to The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) every week to refurbish used computers for distribution to the needy disabled. Pilot Project to Help Bridge the Digital Divide and Create Job Opportunities for the Disabled
Twenty-eight year old Gary Woon can now look forward to being able to find employment. A tetraplegic, Gary has been unemployed for 7 years after a traffic accident. Owing to the mobility problem sustained in the accident, he was not able to use the public transport or afford expensive taxi rides to travel to the workplace. Today, Gary will be able to work in the virtual environment after completing a web design course with The Society for the Physically Disabled.
