SPD’s International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) campaign has won the Award of Excellence (Gold) this month at The Communicator Awards, a leading international awards programme that recognises big ideas in marketing and communications.

SPD launched the campaign last November to commemorate the global event on 3 December and aimed to raise awareness of integrating people with disabilities in the community.

Courtesy of SMRT and SMRT Media, SPD was offered media spaces at selected SMRT train stations for a month from 26 November to showcase the campaign’s posters.

Design house, Quirk, which SPD appointed to work on the project conceptualised the ‘lending a helping hand’ concept. The difference in scales between the hand and the main characters in each poster depicted how much difference a simple act makes to a person with disabilities.

“We are excited by the win, and hope that there will be opportunities for us to reach out to the public and get the message of inclusivity across in a creative and meaningful manner,” said Ms Loi Boon Lee, director for Community Partnerships.

“SPD encouraged creative communication, giving us free rein and allowing us to explore refreshing ideas for the campaign. It is our pleasure to have made an impact, encouraging Singapore to lend a hand,” said Ms Rina Lim, Managing director of Quirk Pte Ltd.
