SINGAPORE, 11 July 2026 – Fairways at Seletar Country Club buzzed with purpose yesterday as close to 150 participants, largely from the business and technology communities, gathered for the SPD Charity Golf 2026 in support of persons with disabilities. Backed by corporate donors and a matching grant from the Tote Board Enhanced Fund-Raising Programme, the event is expected to raise over $517,000 for SPD.
The event was graced by Mr Goh Pei Ming, Minister of State for Home Affairs and Social & Family Development, who joined executives and golf enthusiasts united by a shared vision of an inclusive Singapore.
A disability-focused and multi-service social service organisation in Singapore, SPD supports over 13,000 persons with disabilities annually through over 20 programmes and services. These include early intervention, assistive technology, employment support services, and rehabilitation services, a day activity centre and senior care centres. Together, these services help persons with disabilities and those at risk of developing disabling conditions access opportunities, strengthen independence and contribute meaningfully across educational, professional, and community settings.
The impact of this support came to life on the golf course through two SPD beneficiaries, Muhammad Firdaus bin Jamaluddin and Chong Wei Jun, who served freshly made waffle corn dogs at a refreshment stop along the 18-hole route. Both are part of SPD’s School Canteen Enclave Programme, where beneficiaries learn practical food preparation, customer service and workplace routines in a supportive environment. For the golfers, their presence offered a tangible reminder that each contribution can translate into real opportunities for persons with disabilities to learn, practise and grow.
For Firdaus, who is blind in his left eye due to congenital glaucoma and has mild intellectual disability, the canteen enclave situated in a secondary school, provides a safe space at which to build confidence through hands-on tasks such as preparing food, interacting with customers and working alongside peers. For Wei Jun, who has autism spectrum disorder, it is a step towards greater independence, helping him develop the discipline and social skills for future work opportunities. Their participation at the SPD Charity Golf 2026 showed how sustained donor support can move beyond fundraising figures to create meaningful, everyday progress for individuals and their families.
Another highlight of the tournament was the participation of highly regarded Singaporean amateur golfer Ng Wei Jun, who helped raise additional funds throughout the day. With a donation, golfers could tap on Wei Jun’s skills and have him take the shot on their behalf at a novelty hole. By landing the ball within the target circle, participants improve their chances of winning the grand lucky draw prize – an OSIM massage chair.
As the golf tournament concluded, the supporters gathered for a post-game dinner featuring a silent auction of donated artworks and wine, as well as a fundraising song segment. The strong response from the guests reinforced the message: collective giving can open doors for persons with disabilities and sustain the support needed.
