SPD Thanks All Supporters for Donating to the SPD Charity Show 2015

SPD, an organisation that helps people with disabilities, has raised over $4.8 million so far through the SPD Charity Show 2015 telecast ‘live’ on television last night, exceeding the $3.5 million target that was set for the show. This includes the $32,000 that was collected at the show’s outdoor segment – a three-hour Getai performance at Ang Mo Kio Central Stage – a first for the show.

David Lim, leader of Singapore’s first Mt. Everest Expedition, as you may recall was struck down by a rare and serious nerve disorder shortly after returning from the successful Mt. Tanjong Pagar CDC District Raised $118,000 For The Disabled Through Recycling

Residents from the Tanjong Pagar CDC District has raised $118,000 to help the disabled, simply by recycling their waste. This is part of the SPD Green Earth Programme, an activity organised by The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) which aims to help the disabled, protect the environment and care for the community.

Get Rewarded For Helping The Disabled And Protecting The Environment With Rubbish

Two Tanjong Pagar – West Coast Town Residents’ Committees were commended for encouraging their residents to give recyclable waste to charity. About 1,250 households from the Spottiswoode Park RC precinct and Pasir Panjang Dover Crescent RC precinct were rewarded with with a limited edition Transitlink card and small tokens from kind sponsors. All these for giving recyclable waste to charity under the SPD Green Earth Programme.

PCs For People With Disabilities To Bridge The IT Divide

For people with disabilities, a lack of knowledge and exposure to IT can only further widen the opportunity gap between them and the rest of the community. The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) hopes to help bridge this divide by ensuring that people with disabilities are provided with equal opportunity to learn and adopt IT skills through its IT for the Disabled programme. The programme aims to increase PC ownership amongst people with disabilities from low-income households by providing them with refurbished PCs. This programme is part of IDA’s PC Reuse Scheme.
