For taxi drivers who need help with e- filing their income tax returns, they can turn to The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD). 72-year-old Mr Chin Wan Fatt had his right leg amputated below the knee in September last year due to diabetes. Moving around became difficult and he is now looking forward to having a prosthesis made. This normally takes up to a month and would require several trips to the hospital for fitting and measurements, but with the ‘Direct Pressure Cast Prosthetic Socket for Transtibial Amputees’, he may get his artificial limb sooner than he thinks.

Starhub Donates $250,000 To The Society For The Physically Disabled

StarHub donated S$250,000 from the StarHub IDD Charity Fund to The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) at the StarHub Golf Invitational 2005 for its corporate customers. The donation will be used to set up the StarHub-SPD Learning and Development Centre (LDC), that will cater to the academic, personal, mental and social development of physically disabled students.

Students With Physical Disabilities Get More Opportunities Through The New Starhub-SPD Learning And Development Centre

Ms Chin Yee Lee, a teacher at East View Secondary School, previously would not think twice about excluding physically disabled students from PE lessons. She thought that the activities might be too strenuous or dangerous for them if they were to participate. However, after undergoing the TOPS Workshop provided by The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) in July this year, her perception changed as she has learnt how to modify the lessons to suit children with physical disabilities.
