What do you do when you encounter setbacks? Do you hold your head up high and walk on despite the circumstances, or do you give up on your hopes and dreams? SPD Ability Walk 2017 returns with even more in store for participants

A crowd of more than 1,500 was present at the SPD Ability Walk 2017 this morning to show their support for the inclusion of people with disabilities. Mr Desmond Lee, Second Minister for Home Affairs and National Development, flagged off the 3km leisure walk at the Chinese Garden at 8am. One of the main highlights of the walk was an activity that saw participants walking a distance of about 200m with a leg tied to a partner, and walking assisted while blindfolded through a 200m course. These challenges aimed to help participants to learn a bit more about the difficulties that people with disabilities face daily.

Golfers take on one-hand putting, hole-in-bucket and other novelty challenges at the SPD Charity Golf 2017 to raise $300,000 for people with disabilities

Golfers at Raffles County Club last Friday afternoon wondered about the 40 blue and red tubs surrounding Hole 2 of the golf course. They were even more surprised to see a hole more than double the size of a normal one at Hole 18 which they were told to putt using just one hand. These were among a multitude of novelty challenges that the golfers took on to raise funds for people with disabilities at SPD’s second charity golf tournament.

SPD thanks all supporters for donating to the SPD Charity Show 2017

Close to 20 beneficiaries of SPD, an organisation that helps people with disabilities, performed alongside more than 30 popular local and foreign artistes in a show of inclusion to raise $4.13 million so far at the SPD Charity Show 2017 telecast ‘live’ over MediaCorp Channel 8 last night. The amount includes $58,000 that was collected at the show’s outdoor segment where shoppers at nex shopping mall made donations for a taste of cuisines prepared by Singapore’s celebrity chefs Eric Teo, Heman Tan, Pung Lu Tin and Charlie Tham. The amount raised exceeded the $3.8 million target that was set for the show.

SPD’s Open House Brings Community Together to Show Support for Persons with Disabilities

SPD’s Open House was held on 4 March 2017 at its headquarters on Peng Nguan Street. The event saw the community coming together to foster greater understanding and acceptance of persons with disabilities as part of SPD’s “Breaking Barriers” campaign. Guest-of-Honour Ms Joan Pereira, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC, graced the Open House. The event was also attended by corporate and individual supporters, partners, clients, caregivers and those in the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood.

SPD Beneficiaries Partner Local and Overseas Artistes in Performances for Television Fundraiser to Raise $3.8 million for its Disability Programmes

The SPD Charity Show 2017《SPD 真情无障爱》is part of SPD’s 10-week-long “Breaking Barriers” public education campaign aimed at promoting inclusion and better understanding of people with disabilities. The audience can look forward once again to signature performances pairing SPD’s beneficiaries with disabilities with local and foreign artistes to signify inclusion and integration. The show will be broadcast ‘LIVE’ over Mediacorp Channel 8 on Sunday, 19 March at 7pm, and repeated a week later on 26 March at 3.30pm. Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen will grace the three-hour television fundraiser as the Guest-of-Honour.
