More than 400 participants, including local and foreign artistes and close to 20 beneficiaries, put in many months of hard work to stage the SPD Charity Show 2019, popularly known in Chinese as《SPD 真情无障爱》, to raise $4.31 million for people with disabilities and their families supported by SPD, enabling them greater access to help and support.

Newly minted Asia Pacific Breweries Foundation scholars dream to accomplish big things in life

Staying positive and optimistic even when life throws you a curveball must be one of the hardest things to do. But four young individuals, with their indomitable spirit, spurred by their hopes and dreams, did just that. The four university undergraduates – Caleb Tay, Justin Kueh, Lionel Lee and Brenda Khoo – overcame their disabilities to excel academically and were rewarded with the Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) Foundation Scholarship for Persons with Disabilities. Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and Education, and Mr Andy Hewson, Managing Director of Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore, gave out the scholarships this morning.

SPD Ability Walk takes participants to the Iconic Singapore River

More than 1,000 people turned up at the Singapore River this morning for the SPD Ability Walk 2018 as the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) hosted the event this year. Organised by SPD, a local charity that helps people with disabilities, the 3km walk aimed to raise funds and awareness for the inclusion of people with disabilities and was flagged off by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Communications and Information, Ms Sim Ann.

Golfers raise close to $350,000 for people with disabilities at SPD’s third Charity Golf outing

The SPD Charity Golf 2018 saw more than 120 golfers gather at Raffles Country Club yesterday for the third year running, and overcoming various challenges such as one-hand putting to raise close to $350,000 for people with disabilities. This was one of the last few games the club will be hosting, given that it is slated to vacate its premises in July 2018 to make way for the KL-Singapore High-Speed Rail.

Award-winning chefs whip up an unforgettable dining experience for charity

The delectable cuisine that bowled judges over at the Culinary Olympics in Germany two years ago to clinch Singapore double gold, won the hearts and palates of more than 350 guests who attended SPD’s first charity dinner held at PARKROYAL on Beach Road last night. Led by Louis Tay, executive chef of Swissotel Merchant Court and Teo Yeow Siang, chef of Lavish Dine Catering, the Singapore National Culinary Team recreated their winning masterpiece with adapted ingredients for last night’s exquisite four-course dinner, delighting guests including Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance, who was Guest-of-Honour.

Students with disabilities get boost to reach for bigger dreams

Bursaries amounting to $117,550 were awarded to 95 students with disabilities and students whose parents have disabilitiesat the annual SPD Education Programme Awards Presentation Ceremony 2018 held at the SPD Ability Centre this morning. Three youths also received a grant through the SPD Youth Aspiration Award (YAA) to pursue their interests. The students were congratulated by Madam Halimah Yacob who attended the event as Guest-of-Honour. The YAA comes with a $5,000 grant that helps young persons with disabilities to maximise their potential and reach for bigger dreams. This is an initiative of SPD, a voluntary welfare organisation that helps people with disabilities, and supported by NatSteel Holdings.
