Tiger Balm Charity Event – Haw Par Healthcare Celebrates With People Born In Year Of The Tiger Proceeds Will Go Towards Society for the Physically Disabled

On the 7th day of the Chinese New Year, also known as Ren Ri (人日) – or everyone’s birthday, Haw Par Healthcare, which owns world famous Tiger Balm will be holding a special celebration – Tiger Balm Record Roar 2010. It will be a celebration with heart whereby funds will be raised towards the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD). The carnival style celebration will be held at Underwater World Singapore (UWS) on Saturday 20 February 2010 from 9 am to 5 pm. Everyone is invited.

Students design campaign to integrate people with disabilities into mainstream society

The students from Team Accept adopted the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) as their beneficiary under the YMCA-Citibank Youth for Causes Project and developed ‘I Accept’, a fundraising-public education campaign to create awareness of the challenges people with disabilities face and encourage the general public to accept disabled people as equal members at the workplace, in school and in the community.

Public Urged to Show More Support for People with Disabilities on International Day of Persons with Disabilities

With the International Day of Persons with Disabilities taking place on 3 December, the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) will be putting up a series of four ads in SMRT’s stations and trains to urge members of the public to give way, and to show support and consideration to people with disabilities. The posters feature people with disabilities of different ages receiving support at a lift, train platform, and in the community.

Caldecott’s Most Prominent Couple to Join Celebrities to Raise Funds and Increase Acceptance of People with Disabilities

For the first time, MediaCorp artistes Fann Wong and Christopher Lee will be sharing a stage to perform a sand dance. This sort of performance has never before been seen on national TV. Theirs is one of a string of performances put up by local and international artistes at The SPD Charity Show 2011. The show is Society for the Physically Disabled’s (SPD) third and will be graced by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and broadcast ‘live’ over MediaCorp Channel 8 at 7pm on 13 March 2011, and repeated at 3.30pm on 20 March 2011.

The Infocomm Accessibility Centre Launches Tweet Meet 2011 to Help More People with Disabilities Join the Social Networking World

The Infocomm Accessibility Centre (IAC) announced today the launch of this year’s Tweet Meet, a civic movement aimed at encouraging members of the public to help narrow the digital divide for people with disabilities (PWDs). For the sophomore edition, this civic movement will see more than 10 volunteers who will visit the homes of 40 PWDs to personally deliver, set-up and connect them onto social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Windows Live and Skype so that the recipients can plug into social media and widen their social circle.

More Responded to Call by Infocomm Accessibility Centre to Help Narrow the Digital Divide for People with Disabilities at Tweet Meet 2011

Tweet Meet 2011, organised by the Infocomm Accessibility Centre (IAC), gathered volunteers, bloggers and supportive members of the public in cyber space to help bridge the digital divide for people with disabilities (PWDs) in Singapore. Singaporeans were encouraged to rally the cause online via networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Windows Live and Skype, and to enable virtual interaction and engagement between those with disabilities, friends, families and the public.

SPD has been alerted to cases involving job scams where scammers have used SPD’s name to instruct individuals to transfer money.

Please remain vigilant. SPD does not authorise individuals to request or collect money on our behalf through such means. If you receive a suspicious request or are unsure whether it is genuine, please verify it directly with SPD by calling our general line at 6579 0700. Alternatively, you can call the ScamShield Hotline at 1799 before taking any action.

If you believe you may have fallen victim to a scam, please contact your bank immediately and make a police report.

SPD takes such matters seriously and we constantly review the necessary safeguards to protect the public and our supporters. Please be assured that legitimate donations and payments made through SPD’s official website and authorised platforms remain unaffected.
