The Infocomm Accessibility (IA) Centre, a new pan-disability training facility, run by the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD), officially opens today to offer industry-relevant infocomm training, IT-related apprenticeship as well as library facilities for assistive technology equipment. Launch of the Microsoft Unlimited Potential Scholarship & Certification Training Grant, and special training vouchers offered to voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) entitling their clients to attend one basic or intermediate training module conducted by the IA Centre.
To increase understanding, acceptance and inclusion of people with disabilities, SPD is commissioning a five-part info-educational series that will focus on the lives of and challenges faced by people with disabilities. ‘亮点人生 真情无障碍’ or ‘Breaking Barriers, Unlocking Potentials’ is done in conjunction with International Day of Persons with Disabilities and will be aired every Saturday from 29 November 2008 over Channel 8 at 9pm to 9.30pm. Hosted by Guo Liang, it will feature a few people with disabilities, the challenges they face and how they have or are working to overcome these, as well as the services available to help them.
Alert: Beware of Fraudulent Payment Requests Made in SPD’s Name
SPD has been alerted to cases involving job scams where scammers have used SPD’s name to instruct individuals to transfer money.
Please remain vigilant. SPD does not authorise individuals to request or collect money on our behalf through such means. If you receive a suspicious request or are unsure whether it is genuine, please verify it directly with SPD by calling our general line at 6579 0700. Alternatively, you can call the ScamShield Hotline at 1799 before taking any action.
If you believe you may have fallen victim to a scam, please contact your bank immediately and make a police report.
SPD takes such matters seriously and we constantly review the necessary safeguards to protect the public and our supporters. Please be assured that legitimate donations and payments made through SPD’s official website and authorised platforms remain unaffected.
