From October 2009, the elderly and people with disabilities are able to receive affordable professional speech therapy services in community-based organisations to help them with their swallowing problems. The SPD Charity Show <<真情无障爱>>will meet the twin objectives of increasing understanding and awareness of people with disabilities and raising funds for SPD. SPD hopes to be able to raise $2.8 million to help its flagging donations. It has recently seen a 30% drop in donations and currently has a reserve of $7.1 million which amounts to seven months of its operating cost.
