14 Secondary Two students of Hai Sing Catholic take turns to come to The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) every week to refurbish used computers for distribution to the needy disabled. Pilot Project to Help Bridge the Digital Divide and Create Job Opportunities for the Disabled

Twenty-eight year old Gary Woon can now look forward to being able to find employment. A tetraplegic, Gary has been unemployed for 7 years after a traffic accident. Owing to the mobility problem sustained in the accident, he was not able to use the public transport or afford expensive taxi rides to travel to the workplace. Today, Gary will be able to work in the virtual environment after completing a web design course with The Society for the Physically Disabled.

People with Physical Disabilities Partner Young Rotarians for a Good Cause

Since August, Lee Seng Ngiap, a beneficiary of The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) and his friends have been working non-stop to make refrigerator magnets, scented star candles, tea light candles and copper wire card holders in preparation for a special “Christmas Cheer 2002” charity drive.

Disabled Children Learn IT From Disabled Adults

This school holiday, 9-year-old twin brothers Amin and Aman have more than the usual toys and cartoons to look forward to. Two of 15 physically disabled primary school children taking part in Creative Workshop 2003, the pair who suffer from Achodroplasia (dwarfism) will learn in the Workshop how to maximise their creativity and with the computer, design their own cards and brochures.

E-Filing Services For Taxi Drivers

For seven years, rain or shine, Mr Tan Ah Tee had been taking Philip Ang to school every day in his taxi. Because of Mr Tan’s dedication, Philip was able to attend classes regularly and successfully complete his certificate in Business Study and later go on to obtain a Diploma in Accountancy. Two other taxi drivers provided transport to Philip for 11 years when he started working. Their support has helped Philip to become a Senior Finance Executive today.

Scholarship Dedicated To Help People With Physical Disabilities Launched

When he was 16, wheelchair user Jan Lee formed the conviction that to get a job and have a better future, he had to stand out from his non-disabled counterparts by working hard and excelling academically. Jan has Transverse Myelitis, a neurological disorder caused by inflammation of the spinal cord. At 23, he may well achieve his ambitions with the help of the SPD-Asia Pacific Breweries Foundation Scholarship.
