We are proud to share that two of our caregivers from the Building Bridges EIPIC Centre at SPD@Bedok were among the 17 recipients of the SingHealth Inspirational Caregiver Award this year. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, these caregivers have selflessly stepped forward to support other caregivers.

When her youngest son Ilhan was first diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Mdm Farah felt lost and did not know how to take care of him. However, with strong family support and help from the professionals at SPD@Bedok, Mdm Farah became more confident and hopeful about the situation. Fast forward to today, Mdm Farah selflessly provides emotional support to other caregivers, lending them a listening ear and pointing them to helpful resources. Her positive outlook on life has helped to calm down many anxious parents in similar situations that Mdm Farah once faced.

An avid supporter of our cause, Mdm Farah also volunteers regularly at events and manning the centre’s resource library, even after Ilhan has graduated from the Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC).

A caregiver champion at SPD@Bedok, Mdm Seah initiated the idea of setting up a resource library at the centre. Together with other caregivers, they gathered toys, books and educational resources so that other caregivers could borrow to engage their children at home. Mdm Seah even secured a sponsorship from toy company Lego to donate building blocks for the resource library.

An advocate for people with disabilities, Mdm Seah also participates actively in focus group discussions so that the voices of the disability community can be heard. In 2018, Mdm Seah also took part in the SG Enable P2P Mentor Programme to train other caregivers to become mentors.

We are truly inspired by the dedication, love and courage shown by Mdm Farah and Mdm Seah. Our heartiest congratulations to them!
