SINGAPORE, 5 August 2023 – A record number of 152 golfers gathered at the Seletar Country Club on 4 August for the SPD Charity Golf 2023, raising over $280,000 for persons with disabilities. The event is expected to bring in over $530,000 in total with a dollar-for-dollar matching under the Tote Board Enhanced Fund-Raising Programme.
Gracing the occasion as guest-of-honour was Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social and Family Development and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.
The funds raised from the tournament will go towards supporting the various programmes that local disability charity SPD runs to enable and empower persons with disabilities. Donations made through the platinum sponsorship of the Enabling Flight will go towards providing transport subsidies to beneficiaries attending day care, while donations through the Ability Flights will be channelled to procure therapy chairs and toy sterilisers for SPD’s Building Bridges Early Intervention Centres that support children with developmental needs. Other funds raised through the event go towards the general running of SPD’s other programmes.
Besides early intervention and day care services, SPD has been making an impact in the lives of people with disabilities for close to 60 years through over 20 programmes and services including rehabilitation, assistive technology, employment support and vocational training.
