Close to 20 SPD beneficiaries performed alongside more than 30 popular local and foreign artistes to raise $4.13 million at the SPD Charity Show 2017 on 19 March. The show, held at Mediacorp’s new theatre, was graced by Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen. We bring you some photos of that evening.

More than 50 social entrepreneurs, corporate philanthropy partners and youth leaders gathered at the Red Box on 18 March to discuss the topic of giving back to the community. Themed “Moving Forward by Giving Back”, the dialogue kicked-off SPD’s newest initiative – the SPD Youth Development Programme (YDP). The speakers consisted of SPD President and Nominated Member of Parliament Ms Chia Yong Yong, Ms Debra Lim, co-founder of social enterprise Society Staples, and Mr Chia Boon Chong, Director, Corporate Sustainability, SingTel. The discussion was moderated by social entrepreneur Ms Phua Hui Jia, founder of Skillseed.

The rain in the morning of 4 March did little to dampen the spirits of close to 900 visitors and volunteers who gathered for the SPD Open House at the SPD Ability Centre on Peng Nguan Street. When 6-year-old Kane enrolled in SPD’s Development Support Programme (DSP) last year, he was having difficulties coping in his kindergarten. Kane’s teacher had concerns over his lack of interest in learning and his inattentiveness in class, which could possibly be because of his poor English leading to difficulties following in class.

Chefs to Whip Up Delectable Cuisines to Encourage Donations at SPD Charity Show 2017

Outdoor cooking will make its debut in a televised charity show in the SPD Charity Show 2017 《SPD 真情无障爱》. The artistes and segments to the upcoming SPD’s sixth televised charity show since 2007 were introduced in a media conference held at the SPD Ability Centre on 27 February. In the event, it was revealed that Singapore’s celebrity chefs Eric Teo, Heman Tan, Charlie Tham and Pung Lu Tin would be displaying their cooking prowess in order to raise funds for people with disabilities.
