Learning Never to Quit Through Sports

In an atmosphere almost like a mini South-East Asian Games, more than 20 young clients from SPD’s Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC) and their caregivers gathered at the Radin Mas Community Club Multi-Purpose Hall on 27 June to participate in the annual EIPIC Sports Day.

Set out to promote healthy living, the EIPIC Sports Day also lets families spend quality time together, parents to establish an important support network, and peers to interact through play.

This year, the event was fully sponsored by VFS Global whose staff also turned up as volunteers. The children had a ball of a time competing in the various games.

The children and their caregivers were treated to refreshments and lunch, and every child even received an SPD sports medal for their participation. The group also took the opportunity to celebrate Aida d/o Suraj’s birthday by breaking into a birthday song during lunch. Aida who turned five years old in June, was happy to celebrate her birthday with her friends.

Ms Lim Jie Yi, whose daughter Jessica Lee attends intervention classes twice weekly at the SPD Ability Centre, said: “It is a great opportunity for parents, peers and kids to interact and have fun together. It was my daughter’s first time participating in such a group activity and she enjoyed herself very much. Thank you to SPD and the sponsors for organising this event!”

Another caregiver, Ms Marie Ho, too felt that the event was fulfilling and well-organised: “It was so wonderful seeing the children enjoying themselves. It could not be successful without the help of the teachers and therapists. A big thanks for such a wonderful time.”
