With miniature papier-mache hot air balloons suspending from the ceiling, 3D portraits and abstract paintings hanging on the walls, our Day Activity Centre was transformed into an art and performance gallery on 31 July. Welcome to our very first DAC Arts Festival 2013.

The double bill event opened with the 'DAC Go Green' Exhibition in the morning followed by 'A Cinderella Story' drama performance in the afternoon.

For the 'DAC Go Green' Art Exhibition, our clients showcased handicraft pieces that were made from recycled materials such as newspapers, pencil shavings and ice-cream sticks. Under the guidance of their training officers, the clients transformed these ordinary materials into creative art pieces. The myriad of bright colours coupled with quirky designs converted the exhibition area into a cheerful corner. Staff and family of the DAC clients who visited the exhibition were pleasantly surprised by the level of creativity demonstrated by the clients.

Drama performance was also a first for DAC. The classic fairytale of Cinderella was acted out by a cast of 22 DAC clients who took to the stage confidently although it was their debut. The props and costumes for the play were all designed and handmade by the DAC team.

'Besides uncovering new talents, confidence building was also one of the main reasons why we organised this event. Our clients really did us proud and we are very glad to see them growing and enjoying themselves through this experience,' said Ms Susan Teo, assistant manager of DAC.
