    Rehabilitation Services for Adults




    Day Activity Centre


    Provided day care and training in activities of daily living and community living to 56 clients, covering 11,646 training hours.


    Home Therapy


    Provided 579 therapy sessions to clients who were unable to leave their homes due to their health condition.


    Maintenance Exercise

    (with day care)


    Provided day care incorporating maintenance therapy to 198 clients. 19,280 therapy sessions were offered.


    Rehabilitation Centres


    Provided step down community care support, offering 10,896 therapy sessions.


    Weekend Respite Care


    Offered at SPD@Toa Payoh over the weekends to relieve caregivers of their duties.


    Transition Programme for Employment



    Customised intervention support encompassing therapy and vocational training to help those below 50 years old who are diagnosed with spinal cord injuries or have survived stroke to integrate back into mainstream workforce. Sixteen clients returned to the mainstream workforce.






    Early Intervention Services


    Provides early support for special needs children to minimise the risk of them developing a long term disability.


    Continuing Therapy Programme


    249 children were screened.


    Development Support Programme


    323 therapy and support packages were offered.


    Early Intervention Support for Infants and Children


    33 children graduated from EIPIC - 16 progressed to mainstream school and the rest to Special Schools.






    Employment Support and Vocational Training




    Sheltered Workshop


    Provided sheltered employment and vocational training to people with disabilities.


    Employment Support Programme


    Provided job placement and support services to persons with disabilities seeking open employment. Conducted 352 needs assessments, processed 381 job orders and placed 192 job seekers in open employment.

    Specialised Case Management  Programme




    SPD Education Programme


    Reaches out to children with physical disabilities and those who have parents with physical disabilities. Over $56,000 disbursed directly to 84 students as bursary grants and $20,000 awarded to four SPD Youth Aspiration Award recipients.










    SPD Therapy Hub


    Help retain and attract professionals to the social service sector, improves and standardises the level of therapy care in the sector. Allows better career development for therapists. With 69 therapists, the Hub supported 43 programmes including those offered by SPD.






    Specialised Assistive Technology Centre


    Over 300 assessments and 577 training sessions were conducted to help persons with disabilities overcome their physical limitations through assistive technology. The centre includes an AT loan facility.






    Training and Consultancy Services


    Provided training in early intervention and support for people with disabilities in different care settings.  Also offered disability and accessibility-related training to those working with people with disabilities.

    **Although provision of this service has been outsourced to a transport operator for greater efficiency, SPD still raises funds to provide transport subsidies for the clients.


    SPD Staff Distribution

    A team of professional and direct service staff help run the various programmes and services for our clients. These include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, assistive technology specialists, training officers and social workers. The remaining staff provide indirect service such as HR, IT, office admin, finance and fundraising support. Though they do not deal directly with clients, they provide critical support for the smooth operation of the organisation. SPD's full time staff is well augmented by 4,181 dedicated volunteers with different skills, talents and experiences and who selflessly contributed more than 15,219 man hours.


    In FY2015/2016, SPD served more than 5,000 clients with a staff strength of 296.
