SPD Joins the #GivingTuesdaySg Movement With A Sweet Campaign

SINGAPORE, 1 December 2014 – The humble but colourful lollipop that never fails to bring a smile to its recipient will drive SPD’s “Have a Sweet Day” campaign, organised in conjunction with #GivingTuesdaySG which falls on 2 December this year.

To raise funds so that programmes and services are accessible and affordable for persons with disabilities, SPD is reaching out to the community through a network of over 60 participating hotels and food and beverages outlets across the island. Patrons who make a donation of $2 or more to SPD at these outlets will receive a lollipop in appreciation of their contribution. #GivingTuesdaySG is a call to action for Singaporeans to give their time, money or voice to the less fortunate.

A partner of the “Have A Sweet Day” campaign, Mr Tan Ee Boon, admin manager of The Providore Singapore Pte Ltd said: “Here at The Providore, we recognise the importance of giving back, and to make a positive difference to the communities that we operate in. That is why we are proud to be involved in the nationwide campaign of giving that is the Giving Tuesday Singapore.”

Commenting on the rationale behind this fundraising event, SPD’s executive director, Mr Abhimanyau Pal said: “We came up with the idea of giving lollipops away because they are colourful and an evergreen that always brighten up people’s day. Moreover, people of all ages are able to relate lollipop to all things pleasant. We hope through our appeals for donation, we can also incorporate the feel good factor to the donors and others around.”

In the spirit of the campaign, donors can also give the lollipops away to their employees, customers, friends and loved ones to brighten up their day. To help generate greater awareness, SPD is also encouraging the public to create their very own “lollipop moments” and post them on Instagram/Facebook/Twitter with #HaveASweetDaySG.

“Have a Sweet Day” campaign runs from 17 November to 31 December 2014. For a list of participating outlets, please log on to SPD at www.spd.org.sg.
